Around 1840 our family bought the Rouët, with more than one thousand hectares of forest. This property, essentially forest-land, drew revenue from the sale of pine-wood and cork.
Towards 1880, three generations (Reverdit / Lagane/Savatier) decided to build the Château in its current shape, with its ponds ( 1876 ) ,its park, its " Master House " with ceilings painted by the Italian school ( 1880 ), and its chapel ( 1898 ).
In 1927 a huge fire ravaged the Estérel from Mandelieu to La Motte. It was started by the Mistral and blown back by the East wind. Having cleared thousands of cubic metres of pines after the fire, Lucien Savatier decided to protect the forest by planting vines and peach-trees in fire-breaks. The current structure of the vineyard and its buildings dates back to this period.
After the second world war, in 1945, René Savatier and Victor Trocello, the manager of the Estate, developed the sale of Château du Rouët wines in bottles. Since 1962, Bernard Savatier has dedicated his career to managing this Estate for his family. In the nineties his sons Martin and Matthieu joined him.
Martin Savatier developed and modernized the estate. Due to his labour and love for the "Terroir", he contributed, moreover, to the creation of the "appellation Fréjus". Matthieu Savatier took the responsibility for publicizing the Château du Rouët Wines both in France and abroad. Today he is in charge of the Estate and its developement.
